I have a huge question. I am a nurse and right now I am watching as one of my residents is slowly dying of bone cancer. I know most certainly that she is not a christian and I don't think she really cares. I am not sure how to even bring up the topic. She is not a position where I can envite her to church. I am worried that when the time comes, she will go to Hell. Have you got any ideas?

I am a woman who is just coming out of an emotionally abusive relationship and feeling kind of lost! It never got to the point of physical violence but there has been more than enough name calling and degrading and belittling. I am trying to turn my life around and discover why I choose these types of men in my life and stop myself from doing so. I want so much to find the fairy tale happines I have always dreamed of but just don't think it exsists for me. I have tried different religious avenues and just feel I don't fit in at any of them or anywhere for that matter. Please help me find the strength within myself to either get help or something.... any advise you can offer will be greatly appreciated

I had a great question sent in this week ... I was researching the whole oath to God thing this morning and had another question. I looked mainly at Matt. 5:34-37 and James 5:12 and they both seem to agree with what you said last night about not taking a oath in God's name and that in Deut. 6:13 it is talking about a commitment to God. The commentators all agree with you as well, although some seemed to indicate that these passages only refer to everyday type of oaths and that it is permissible to take an oath in God's name for serious matters and as a legal requirement. However, last night I kept thinking that there was a time when God swore by himself but I wasn't sure, so I looked it up this morning. It is in Gen. 22:16 and referred to again in Heb. 6:13. How do you square that? If God swore an oath by himself, is it wrong for us to do so as well? How much of the controversy is due to people making light of it and not taking it seriously like when it says that it is better not to make a vow at all then to break one? That people throw promises around without thinking instead of just being honest and reliable all the time as indicated by needing to let your yes be yes and your no be no?

I just finished reading your sermon on marriage and divorce. I have been married for several years, but most of those years have been unhappy ones. We are both believers, there's no adultry or abuse going on, but in general our marriage has never been a good one. My spouse has promised over and over to make changes for the better, but I have yet to see any changes. I am not perfect, but I am tired of being the only one making efforts to make this marriage work. I don't want to live the next 50 years this way. You suggested books or audio tapes about marriage - can you suggest some that might be helpful to us?

The Bible says "...by His stripes we are healed." I have always taken that to mean that we are healed from our sins. I recently had someone pray for my health and claim that verse as a promise that Jesus' stripes healed all our sickness. If that's so, why do so many Christians die from cancer, heart disease, etc.?

Nearly every day I have thoughts of the family left behind and wonder how they're dealing with things after a little time has passed. I pray for them as often as I think of them. I thought getting rid of the guilt feelings would take more time, but I have to say that I am not feeling guilty anymore. I still feel a great sadness for the loss of life, and (most likely) the loss of eternal life of this particular person. I just keep praying that his parents, siblings, children, friends, etc. will come to know Christ and find comfort in Him. I want to be even closer to Christ in my thoughts, through reading His word, and in my daily activities so I won't miss the opportunity to pray for or witness to another person. I am thankful for the opportunity to continue growing in my relationship with Christ. I am also thankful for this way to ask questions and express feelings that I might not otherwise have the opportunity to do.

In the past few weeks, God has put a certain person's name in my head. Instead of taking the opportunity to stop and pray for this person, I just pushed the thought out of my head. This is someone from my past that I didn't necessarily want to think about. Now there has been a terrible tragedy and this person, and several others, are dead. What if I had stopped to pray for him?? Could I have prevented something so terrible from happening? How do we know when it's God sending us a message or when it's just our own thoughts?? I feel so guilty for not recognizing the need to pray for this person.

My mother claims to have spoken in a tongue unknown to her while in prayer. The Bible's account of speaking in tongues shows that it was done for a specific purpose with a specific audience. When I ask her about why her "experience" was done in secret with no one to benefit, she says the Spirit knows what to pray for when we do not and believes that the Spirit was praying on her behalf, even though she doesn't know what she "prayed" about. She's also attending a church that believes in speaking in tongues and as a whole there is a lot of speaking in tongues done by the congregation, but as far as I can tell, only the preacher has the ability to interpret. I don't beleive most of the things she tells me happened for the reasons I've stated and I'm finding it very difficult to share in her excitement I'm not sure how to answer her claims. What is the Biblical view of "ghosts" and/or "haunted" houses? I never believed in such things until I lived in a house we considered to be "haunted". Even as I type the question, it sounds silly. But how else do you explain footsteps sounding in an empty room, doors opening and closing by themselves, etc.?

I have been thinking lately about the role of confessions of sin in a church setting. I know in the Roman Catholic churches, people will confess privately to a priest. However, in most protestant churches I see no trace of public or private confessions of sin. I am wondering what people think about why or how Christians should confess their sins? Is it simply enough to admit to God and others that we are sinners, or should we confess specific faults and deeds?

I have one for you all!!! ... we are developing our vision statement from which all of our ministries will be based. We are wanting to send a message that shows who we are and what we intend to do. There are two questions in this blog:
1. What do you think of the vison statement ... anything you would change?
2. What are some ways we can practically impliment what this vision statement states in day to day ministry?

In the news today, a woman heard voices that told her to stone her 3 children to death. Her doctor says she is mentally ill - bipolar.

Do you believe people can be demon-possessed today? What about people with a mental illness and/or who hear voices?

Is "casting out demons" and "healing" the same thing?

According to John 13:14-15 (NIV) "Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you."

I have attended a church that had feet washing services. Why don't we practice this?
