Does the Bible speak against body piercings and tatoos? I seem to remember a scripture that says something about it, but I can't remember where it is.

You remember well. Leviticus 19:28 ... “‘Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD." The issue though is that it is an Old Testament Law. As a Christian ... we are no longer under the law of the OT but under the Lordship of Jesus Christ as presented in the New Testament. The question you may need to ask yourself is whether a tattoo is a good or bad witness for Christ. I am aware of a young gentleman that has a cross tattooed on his back. While in China ... that tattoo was a resource of witness opportunities several times.

Since they are from the OT, are the ten commandments "outdated" for Christians as well?

As in so many things in Christianity, the question is not what we are doing but why are we doing it-motivation. People do a lot of good things for the wrong reasons. People also do things that turn out wrong for great reasons.

The question that I have to ask myself before I do something is, "How is God honored and my fellow man edified by my action?" If I can truthfully answer that in a positive way, I feel that I have a good start.

In Matthew when Jesus was asked what is the greatest commandment, He said," Love God with every fiber of your being, and your fellow man as yourself." (my paraphrase). If we are honestly striving for this, our actions will fall in line with it. I think this includes tattoos and piercings. Are we honoring God and edifying each other with them?
